Mata Leon
This is a good example of someone fighting for the " Mata Leon" choke during a live match. Matt Serra V Takanori Gomi I believe circa 2000 at ADCC: Pay close attached at about 2:30 onward as Serra Battles unitl he finds his spot.
Nice. I like how he pins Gomi's arm down with his leg to get it out of the way. It also looks like for a moment there at the end Gomi is reaching down, not defending the choke, and fiddling around with Serra's legs.

Yes, the leg trap is a very effective tool which will eliminate an opponents ability to defend the choke.
